About The Billing Desk

Learn what The Billing Desk covers on US medical bills, patient rights and collections, and how its articles are written from public sources.

The Billing Desk covers US medical bills and medical debt in plain terms. It is edited by The editorial team of The Billing Desk. If you face a hospital bill or a collection letter, you can use these pages to understand the document in front of you and the steps you can review before you act.

What you find in the three sections

  • Understand Bills helps you read an itemised bill line by line, check charges, payments, adjustments and balances, and keep copies of each version you receive.
  • Patient Rights explains rights described in public sources such as the No Surprises Act and materials from the CFPB, so you can see what protections may apply and what questions you can ask.
  • Collections and Credit explains how a bill reaches collections, how a dispute process works, and what credit reporting rules say about medical debt entries on your reports.

You find source notes in each article. The texts are written from public sources named in each article. When an article refers to a hospital, a billing office, a collection agency, a credit bureau or a public agency, it describes that organisation in third person. If a point depends on your plan, your state or the date of service, the article states that limit so you can check the source before you rely on it.

This site is for you if you pay for care in the United States and you need clear steps. You can read it if you review a bill for yourself or for a family member, if you prepare a call with a billing office, or if you receive a letter about a past due balance. You do not need prior knowledge. You can start with your paper or electronic bill and follow the checks described in the relevant section. For contact, you can use contact@hfacollections.com. The site collects no personal data and uses no cookies and no tracking. It is hosted on Cloudflare.
